In his work, John M Armleder uses references that recall art history as well as popular culture. For years, he has recycled decorative elements evoking the Christmas celebration and organized an “X-mas Party” within the framework of his record label, founded with his son and Sylvie Fleury, Villa Magica Records.

On occasion of the 2018 “X-mas Party,” Print Them All realized with MAMCO a Christmas edition. In this lithograph, Armleder uses two comic characters from the 1950s: Eega Beeva and Marvin the Martian, as motifs repeated on a gradient-colored background. Space or time travelers these figures hint to reflexions on evolution, the future, and alien forms of life that never ceased to haunt our culture.

Printed with the classical know-how of Idem in Paris, this edition exists in 4 versions: Black & Yellow Edition, Orange & Blue Edition, Blue & Pink Edition, Purple & White.

Published to accompany the release of the facsimile of her legendary book The Story of Bern by JRP|Editions, and on the occasion of the artist’s exhibition at Centre Pompidou (September 26, 2019–January 6, 2020), This Card Brings What Every One Wants is emblematic of Dorothy Iannone’s distinctive colorful, explicit, and comic book style and of her openness about sexuality and the strengthening of female autonomy.

This lithograph is a page taken from Iannone’s work The (Ta)Rot Pack (1968–1969), a substantial body of work which narrates her life and love affair with artist Dieter Roth while living in Germany, France, and Iceland, and testifies to a period Iannone as described as “always immersed in the beloved.”

If you know what you want, and if you want even more, this lithograph will be the perfect companion to envision your future!

Dorothy Iannone

For more than six decades, Dorothy Iannone (1933, Boston–2022, Berlin) has attempted to represent ecstatic love, the union of gender, feeling, and pleasure. Today her oeuvre, which encompasses painting, drawing, collage, video, sculpture, objects, and artist’s books, is widely recognized as one of the most provocative and fruitful bodies of work in recent decades in terms of the liberalization of female sexuality, and political and feminist issues.

As Fluxus artist Robert Filliou declared as early as in 1972, “She is a freedom fighter, and a forceful and dedicated artist, skillfully blending imagery and text, beauty and truth. Her aim is no less than human liberation.” A narrative element fed with personal mythologies, experiences, feelings, and relationships runs through all of her work, unified by her distinctive colorful, explicit, and comic book style.

Active from the 1960s to the early 2020s, her work has been recently exhibited at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebaek (2022); the Centre Pompidou, Paris (2019); the Serpentine Pavilion, London (2018); the Centre Culturel Suisse, Paris (2016); MAMCO, Geneva (2017); the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunt, Zurich, and the Berlinische Galerie, Berlin (2014); the New Museum, New York (2009).
