A catalogue raisonné
This complete catalogue raisonné of Johannes Wohnseifer’s work is likewise an artist book. What makes the project uncommon is that its production was using a computer program, the “Art-Butler,” especially developed for museums and galleries in order to maintain their databases. To visualize the irony behind the idea of having a service which catalogues an artist’s creative output using complicated technology, Wohnseifer’s works were organized chronologically with the help of this program. Afterward, the data were exported, and his works reproduced individually one per page, including their specifications, as arranged by the computer program. In other words, the computer has become the curator. With its simple binding and black cardboard spine the book visually conforms to the “aesthetics of the copy-shop,” adapting the style of an artless directory.
Limited edition of 500 copies.
Published with Johann König Gallery, Berlin, in the series edited by Christoph Keller.
