This unique series of 12 monotypes made by Ann Craven entitled, Bleeding Heart Fade, is based on a painting that the artist has recently revisited. The birds depicted are like an iconic symbol of both devotion and love of family and people in the artist’s life, namely her grandparents.
Originally painted from photographs found in a book in her grandmother’s cellar, the birds are a heart wrenching symbol of her grandparents’ profound love for one another. The bleeding-heart flower is also depicted in works by the painter Georgia O’Keeffe, who Craven considers to be a great source of inspiration.
