First monograph

A first monograph presenting an exhaustive selection of the artwork of Tobias Putrih (*1972, Slovenia, lives and works in New York) created between 1999 and 2007. Conceived as an archive of materials, both visual and textual, the publication illuminates the thought and methodology of the artist. His work, realized in aesthetically compelling sculptures and installations, involves a rigorous investigation of the promises and failures of powerful cultural institutions such as cinema, modernist architecture, and design, and the positivist natural and social sciences. The monograph comprises essays by Elena Filipovic, Elizabeth Guffey, Marta Kuzma, Stojan Pelko, and Monica Portillo, from a variety of disciplinary perspectives including design history, film theory, philosphy, political science, and museology, on specific veins of production that can be traced through Putrih’s oeuvre.

Published with the Neuberger Museum of Art, New York, and Galerija Gregor Podnar, Ljubljana, as part of the series Gurgur Editions.
